ACHIEVEMENTS
Since 2022, LVUSD has been directed through a period of significant progress and long-term investment.
Major Academic and Organizational Recognitions
- Our schools have earned statewide recognition for academic
achievement, attendance, equity, environmental leadership, and
expanded student opportunity. Chaparral, Bay Laurel, Sumac, and
Willow were named California Distinguished Schools. LVUSD was
recognized as a California Model School Attendance Review Board
and we also received a California Green Ribbon Schools Silver Award
for environmental leadership and sustainability.
- Districtwide scores in English language arts, mathematics, and science
reached their highest levels since CAASPP testing began in 2017, with
mathematics performance reaching the highest level ever recorded in
LVUSD. We have the highest graduation rate in LVUSD history.
Districtwide, the number of students taking AP exams have shown
significant growth in the past three years, increasing in both number
of students taking tests and those scoring 3 or higher. Our Niche
ranking has LVUSD in the top 4% in the entire state with an A+ rating
and in the top 2$ in the country.
School Facilities and Infrastructure Overhaul
- We have completed over 260 maintenance/improvement projects since the 2022 passing of Measure S, a $340 million school facilities bond, launching the largest facilities modernization program in LVUSD history. We are presently three years ahead of schedule and $20 million under budget.
- We have focused our first bond phase on career technical education spaces, instructional technology and STEM infrastructure; HVAC, roofing, plumbing, and electrical improvements; earthquake, fire accessibility and security upgrades; tracks, fields, athletic facilities, shade and outdoor lerning environments; and accelerated solar projects to protect favorable energy rates and increase the purchasing power of Measure S funds.
Fiscal Management
- We have also protected the district’s financial strength. LVUSD maintained positive budget certifications, received clean audits, earned among the highest credit ratings available to an LCFF-funded district, generated approximately $5 million through new programs, reduced operating costs by several million dollars, and substantially lowered long-term liabilities by over 50%. Aggressive seeking of grants has resulted in our CTE grant funding nearly doubling this year to approximately $800k.
Academic and Social Emotional Well-Being
- Most importantly, we expanded support for students. We strengthened counseling and wellness services, expanded transitional kindergarten and after-school opportunities, restored outdoor education, modernized high school schedules, improved attendance systems, and created more inclusive graduation pathways and specialized services. Additionally, I initiated changes to our cellphone policy as well as a districtwide ban on e-bikes, as part of our continued focus on student safety and wellness.
There is more work ahead, but LVUSD is stronger, more stable, and better positioned for the future.
