MEET ANGELA

Trusted Leadership for all Students

I have been so very honored to serve our community as a member of the Las Virgenes Board of Education.

Born and raised in Kansas, I graduated from college there and worked for the Kansas Secretary of State in the Elections/Legislative Matters Office. I also worked in Washington, D.C. for the US Senate and the Senate Finance Committee. I received my MA in Postwar European Economic Reconstruction and Political Integration from Durham University in Durham, England. While living in the UK, I worked for the House of Commons and Dewe Rogerson Ltd, a government relations consultancy.

My husband, David, and I relocated back to the United States, choosing as our destination the Las Virgenes school district, where I became actively involved in the schools and my community, working as a PFA/C President at all levels – elementary, middle, and high school, as well as numerous district committees and volunteering for bond and parcel tax measures to benefit our schools.

I have wholeheartedly supported these measures which keep these targeted funds here in our schools and out of Sacramento. The funding formula for public education in California means that out of 1000 public school districts, we are in the bottom 15% of per pupil funding; I regularly speak with local and state-elected officials in order to advocate for our schools in terms for both funding and legislation. But here’s the good news: our position as a high-achieving, destination district in spite of our funding situation speaks volumes about our teachers, staff, and District personnel. And no other public school district of our size has this variety of educational programs and academic offerings.

Our children, Warner, Elliot, and Clara, all attended Las Virgenes schools from kindergarten through high school. Our family is thankful for the terrific education that they received; I’ve been honored to dedicate my time and energy to this amazing District.

As a board member, I will continue to be an advocate for all students; I initiated our recent logo rebranding which included the adoption by the Board of our motto: Every Kind of Excellence, Every Kind of Future. Because we believe our public schools should reflect excellence in all areas, not just academics but also in every aspect of a student’s education, such as sports, performing arts, special education to name a few; and we want to prepare them for a myriad of possibilities in their post-secondary future.

With your support, I will remain dedicated to sustaining educational excellence in our schools.  Great schools are vital to the creation and sustaining of great communities; we are fortunate to have both and I want to continue to work hard for our students and their future.

Thank you for your support!
